In order to verify codes on a well-posed version of a KH test, we have developed a smooth version of the test, a discretization-agnostic measurement, and a reference result with an uncertainty. My collaborators on this work are Wladimir Lyra and Jean-Claude Passy. The paper can be found on ADS and ArXiV here. Two pieces of additional material are posted on this page:
- The reference solution time series. This is a ASCII text file with three columns. The time, the y-velocity mode amplitude (as defined in the paper) and the absolute uncertainty derived from the Grid Convergence Index (GCI). Click here to download.
- The maximum y-direction specific kinetic energy time series. In addition to the verified reference time series for the mode amplitude above, this is particularly useful for diagnosing the grid-scale noise behaviour of a code (see Figure 8 in the paper). This is a ASCII text file with two columns. Click here to download.
- The full set of images from the Athena based demonstration of the secondary KH instabilities. Outputs at time 0 to 4, spaced at 0.1. Each image has three panels, from top to bottom: 1024, 2048, and 4096 cells squared resolution. Click here to download.
